Material
Aluminium foil
A versatile wrap and cover — but not for acidic foods.
Typical storage time: Short-term wrapping; combine with an airtight box for longer
Best for
- Covering dishes, wrapping for the oven/BBQ, freezer wrapping (double-wrap)
Avoid for
- Wrapping acidic foods (tomato, citrus, vinegar) for long periods
- Microwaves (sparks/fire)
Good to know
Acids and salt react with aluminium, causing pitting and a metallic taste. Never put foil in a microwave. The shiny/dull side makes no practical difference.
