The body's chemical messengers
Hormones
25 key hormones — what they do, where they're made, and the signs of too much or too little.
What are hormones? Hormones are chemical messengers made by glands (the endocrine system) and released into the blood to travel to other parts of the body. In tiny amounts they control huge processes — growth, metabolism, mood, sleep, stress, reproduction, and the balance of salt, sugar and water. When a hormone runs too high or too low, the effects ripple across the whole body.
